WHAT IS SKILLED VISA TO AUSTRALIA?

The General Skilled Migration (GSM) program in Australia is designed for skilled individuals seeking to migrate and work in the country. It is a points-based immigration program. GSM pathway includes several categories such as the Skilled Independent visa (subclass 189), Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190), and Skilled Work Regional visa (subclass 491).

Applicants must submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) through SkillSelect and meet specific points criteria based on factors like age, qualifications, work experience, English proficiency, and occupation demand. The Skilled Visa program in Australia, aims to address skill shortages across various industries in Australia, contributing to economic growth and development.

Skilled visa program in Australia operates on various lists of occupations in demand across the country. These lists, which include the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL), the Short-term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL), and the Regional Occupation List (ROL), dictate which professions are eligible for skilled visas.

Tracking these changes can be challenging, given the dynamic nature of the labour market needs.

WHO CAN BE A SKILLED MIGRANT?

Skilled visas, particularly the General Skilled Migration (GSM) visas, constitute pathways for individuals possessing verified formal skills, internationally recognized unique talents, exceptional English proficiency, and substantial work experience. These visas cater to skilled migrants, whether they pursue independent applications or are nominated by a state, territory, organization, or family member.

The determination of skills, specific occupations, and additional factors is a process that involves the collaboration of state governments. As part of the Australian skilled migration framework, the GSM program relies on the expertise and assessments of state bodies to ascertain the relevance and demand for particular skills in various regions.
