Temporary Graduate visa allows international students to live, study and work after you have finished your studies.

485 Temporary Graduate visa

The Temporary Graduate visa 485  is  for international students who have completed 2 years of study in Australia. It can last from between 18 months and 4 years depending on your situation.

It is a good way to extend your stay in Australia to improve your chances of becoming eligible for a permanent or provisional skilled visa.

The primary applicant must be in Australia when they make their application for a 485 visa, and must have held an eligible student visa within the 6 month period prior to lodgement.

To apply for Student Graduate visa:

Post-Study Work stream is for international students who have recently graduated with a degree from an Australian institution. It lets you live, work and study in Australia, temporarily.

  • add family members to your application after you apply but before we decide on your visa

For Student visa, family members are:

Family members who apply for the visa with you must meet our health and character requirements.

If you already hold a 485 visa, you can apply for family members to join you in Australia on 485 visas.

Requirements for Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485) are:

Age: The main applicant must be under 50 at the date of lodgment.
English: The main applicant must demonstrate their English language ability, either through holding certain types of passport or by undertaking an English test. Evidence of threshold English must be provided at date of lodgement
Study in Australia: You must meet the 2 year study requirement and have completed qualifications within six months of applying for the visa.
Point Test: The Temporary Graduate subclass 485 visa is not points-tested.

Graduate Work Stream:

  • be under 50 years of age
  • have a qualification relevant to an occupation on the skilled occupation list
  • be assessed as having skills suitable for an occupation on the skilled occupation list

Graduate visa has two streams and process is different for both.

Graduate Work Stream require one step and you can apply for visa once you meet criteria.

Graduate Work stream of Student Graduate visa allows you to stay in Australia for 18 months.

You can’t stay in Australia longer by extending this visa. You might be eligible for other skilled or work visas.

Post-Study Work stream of Student Graduate visa allows you to stay usually between 2 and 4 years, depending on your qualification.
